What to Expect During a Plumbing Repipe?

What to expect during a repipe with We Do Repipes?

Damaged or old plumbing pipes may need to be completely replaced. However daunting this may seem, this can be a positive thing for your everyday life. Imagine better water pressure, no more worrying about leaks, and better efficiency of several appliances. The process of replacing your entire plumbing supply system may seem overwhelming to most homeowners. This guide will tell you what to expect when repiping your home.

Let’s start with what a repipe is. A repipe is replacing all the plumbing in a house. This includes running all new water supply lines into your home. This does not include the sewer system.

Consultation

Every house repipe starts with a consultation. During this discussion, your repipe consultant will inspect the plumbing system of your home, estimating the length of pipe needed and the cost. They explore your new pipe options with you. The repiping process is explained to you, and any questions are thoroughly answered. We determine whether there are areas in your home that are super important to you that you prefer not to disturb during the repipe. If possible, we will plan a custom workaround for your home. We will provide you with a comprehensive estimate that explains what kind of pipe we’ll be placing in your home and the total cost to you. You can expect a quote and a proposal for the work. Financing options will be considered.

Repipe Day - Prep work

Before the repipe, we will ask you to remove personal items from areas we need to access, like below the sinks and vanities. Our plumbers will pull any necessary permits from the city.

Your repipe team will arrive at a prearranged time and begin prepping your home - covering floors and furniture exposed to drywall dust during cutting.

Your water will be turned off as work begins. Many repipes can be completed in 1 day, but some may take longer depending on the complexity and size of the home. You will know upfront how long your home will take. Regardless, you will have water every evening.

The Repipe

Repiping is the process of installing a new water line plumbing system. This process usually includes removing old readily accessible pipes and installing the new plumbing system.  Standard repiping projects include the installation of all-new hot and cold domestic water piping from the water source to all existing faucets and fixtures. Drain replacement and fixtures are not included unless specifically included in the proposal.

The Install

Now it’s time for our repiping plumbers to remove your old failing plumbing system and replace it with new PEX or copper piping. This will include accessing rooms wherever you have plumbing fixtures, the kitchen, baths, wet bar areas, and the attic in most cases. In some cases, it is better to get access to your plumbing from a different room. We Do Repipes will always take care to move through your home with care, and inform you in advance of your repipe plan.

Finishing work

Once the new plumbing is installed and the inspection is completed, the repipe portion of your project is done. At this point, the expert crew ensures everything is operating correctly. Your plumbing system is tested for integrity, and all connections are checked. The water is turned back on, and the plumbing system is pressure tested and then flushed out.

A professional site inspection is critical to a successful repipe. Once the plumbing system is inspected and given the green light, it’s time to clean up the mess. It’s time to patch the holes in the wall and repaint.

You will experience all the benefits of your new plumbing lines. Your water will no longer run through old rusty pipes, so you will have clean & clear water. You will likely notice an increase in your water pressure and better regulate the water temperature throughout your home. Any old plumbing still in your home is no longer supplying your water, they are inactive.

The repiping process takes 1-3 days to install the new piping system. After the actual plumbing replacement is complete, there will be some necessary wall repair. Unless you opted to do your own drywall patching, this would be done in the final phase of your repipe.  Drywall patching and paint matching are an art. Our plumbers do not patch your walls, this is not their specialty. Typically, the wall patching will happen on a different day by our professional drywall experts, after all inspections are complete. They leave your home looking like we were never there. They will patch the walls and match your paint.

Most homeowners breathe a sigh of relief at this point because their home looks great, and they no longer have to worry about having a major leak from that old plumbing. You don’t have to use rusty water anymore for cooking, laundry, and bathing.

You can appreciate your new pipes, which will last for years to come. The PEX-a uponor comes with a 25-year manufactures warranty. We also warranty all work. Ask your consultant for details. A complete repiping may seem like a hassle, but it’s an excellent investment in the value of your home and your enjoyment in it.
